We are currently looking for an Intermediate Environmental Planner (QAES) to join our growing team. This is a hybrid role working in our downtown Edmonton office and performing field work throughout northern Alberta, with the opportunity of working from home.

Some responsibilities you will have:

To be successful as an Intermediate Environmental Planner at Carson Integrated, you will need to thrive in a fast-paced work environment that offers exceptional challenges and a wide variety of work. You will have experience in most of the areas outlined below and be eager to learn and develop the ones you are missing.

  • Relevant experience and certification as a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) in order to complete Fish Habitat Assessments, monitoring of crossing installation and replacements, prepare written specifications for COP Notifications, Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Request for Reviews, Species at Risk Act (SARA) applications for watercourse crossings and contribute to other Water Act Authorization projects including inland marina and watercourse diversion projects.
  • Must have the ability to travel and perform fieldwork.
  • Conduct pre-disturbance site assessments including wetlands assessments, vegetation and ecosite delineation, basic soils surveys, identification of wildlife features, watercourse classification and crossing assessments, noxious weeds surveys, and merchantable timber volume assessments.
  • Develop and execute strategies for obtaining regulatory approvals from various regulators.
  • Compile regulatory and environmental approval documents including but not limited to, Conservation Operation and Reclamation Plans, Public Lands Act Applications, Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports/Forms, and Mitigation Plans.
  • Ensure client projects are delivered on schedule and within the allocated budget.
  • Conduct historical environmental, regulatory, and land use reviews.
  • Prepare timely and accurate technical reports and plans.
  • Assist clients with project planning including project siting, constraint identification, and stakeholder consultation.
Experience and skills for success:
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Environmental Science, Biological Science, or Environmental Planning
  • Professional designation (P. Bio., P. Ag., RPF) is an asset
  • 3+ years of experience with regulatory approvals in the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • 3+ years of field data collection experience is preferred
  • Relevant experience and certification as a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES)
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation and regulatory requirements in Alberta
  • Operational understanding of environmental best management practices
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage numerous projects concurrently
  • Superior problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proactive, solutions-based approach to constraints and project planning
