We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Planner.
The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in environmental assessment (EA), environmental planning, and consulting services. You will work with a team of environmental professionals, reporting to Project Managers, and handling a variety of tasks.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Attend project meetings via Microsoft Teams to provide updates on EA progress and environmental components.
- Communicate project updates to internal teams.
- Prepare and review EA planning reports such as TESRs, EPRs, and ESDs (or DDES/ESM depending on the region).
- Review technical environmental reports from team members.
- Assist in preparing proposals related to EA and environmental components.
- Contribute to project scheduling, including GANTT charts, and update deliverable schedules as needed.
- Track project budgets and flag concerns to the Project Manager.
- Review invoices from environmental sub-consultants for consistency.
- Prepare change orders for scope modifications.
- Assist with obtaining conservation authority permits and review related documentation.
- Review online resources to inform proposals and projects.
- Stay updated on new environmental legislation and guidance, and share relevant information with staff.
- Prepare and review consultation materials and coordinate stakeholder engagement activities.
- Attend meetings with agencies, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders.
- Respond to consultation comments and liaise with clients.
- Mentor junior staff and review their deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external clients to address project issues.
- Ensure QA/QC procedures are followed in project documentation.
What Your Experience Looks Like
- Minimum 4 years of experience leading transportation, transit, or stormwater EA projects under Ontario EA legislation.
- Degree or diploma in environmental planning, urban/regional planning, geography, civil engineering, or related field.
- Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation or eligibility is an asset.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal EA legislation and guidance.
- Experience developing stakeholder consultation plans and managing engagement activities.
- Proficiency in preparing EA documentation such as TESRs, EPRs, and ESDs/DDES/ESMs.
- Experience with technical environmental reports (e.g., erosion control, soil management, archaeological assessments) is a plus.
- Understanding of disciplines related to EA processes, including fisheries, archaeology, waste management, and air quality.
- Ability to review technical reports critically.
- Knowledge of permitting processes for various environmental disciplines.
- Skills in project budget management, scheduling, and team coordination.
- Client relationship management skills.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior staff.
- French language skills are an asset.
