The Opportunity:

As an intermediate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting EIA’s, supporting consultation and engagement activities with external stakeholders, and preparing EIA documentation for nuclear, electricity transmission, renewable energy, mining, and other energy related projects.. You will rely on yourdemonstrated experience navigating EIA requirements, environmental permitting, and related authorization processes relevant to development projects in Ontario. Experience with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and/or the federal Impact Assessment Act is essential. You will work with a dynamic and experienced team as a key member to serve a variety of exciting clients and projects.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will plan, coordinate and carry out mandates that relate to environmental and socio-economic impact studies, obtaining environmental permits and authorizations, and implementation of environmental monitoring and / or the implementation of environmental management systems.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating projects related to nuclear, transmission, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, and oil and gas sectors.
  • You will coordinate technical work of others ensuring deliverables are provided in a timely manner.
  • You will manage small to medium EIAs or environmental permitting projects, or assist Intermediate and Senior EA practitioners in the management of large inter-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder EIAs, environmental permitting and environmental construction monitoring projects, including project scheduling, tracking budgets, and preparing regular progress reports
  • You will represent client projects to stakeholders including regulators, industry groups, environmental groups, landowners, Indigenous communities, and the public.
  • You will plan for and/or participate in meetings and consultation events.
  • You will be responsible for evaluating Request for Proposals, reviewing and preparing proposals, developing work scopes, budgets and schedules, all with support from senior staff.
  • You will manage projects (scope, budget, schedule and quality), project teams, and clients simultaneously while fostering a workplace that adheres to WSP’s core values.
  • You will support logistics planning for environmental field programs.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience conducting and managing environmental impact assessments, with a focus on mining, nuclear and energy projects
  • A thorough understanding of the EIA requirements in Ontario and federally in Canada
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements and approvals
  • Experience managing complex projects and multi-disciplinary teams
  • You will contribute to writing, compiling, and editing environmental impact assessment report sections and engagement materials.
  • You will champion HS&E Commitment and underlying principles throughout the organization.
  • You will mentor more junior staff.
  • You will collaborate regionally and nationally with other EIA practitioners and other disciplines.
  • You will provide environmental and regulatory leadership.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology or a related discipline/equivalent
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, strong working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as within a team environment and under deadlines
  • Full driving license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Willingness to occasionally travel and occasionally work outside standard office hours
