Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Prince George team in British Columbia. The role combines office-based project leadership with field work as needed across Canada.

The successful candidate will lead geotechnical projects, prepare technical reports, and mentor staff while developing client relationships. A post-secondary degree in Civil/Geological Engineering is required, with EGBC eligibility and strong English communication skills highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering.
  • Graduate Degree (M.Eng., M.Sc. or Ph.D.) considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field.
  • Specialized experience in foundation analysis and design, or terrain analysis is an asset.
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • An effective communicator with strong writing skills.
  • Class 5 Drivers license and comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, resource road, and construction environments, in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites.
  • Eligible for membership with EGBC.
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing).
  • Experienced in the use of specialized geotechnical software; and,
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments.

Responsibilities

  • Project management of geotechnical projects.
  • Prepare and write proposals, fee estimates, and technical reports as directed by the Engineering or Branch Manager.
  • Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical geotechnical analyses of stability, stress, deformation, and foundation response, utilizing a suite of software routines.
  • Identifying new opportunities and working with the Branch Manager or other specialists within the firm to develop them.
  • Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects.
  • Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals.
  • Mentoring, coaching and training of staff.
  • Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients.
  • Participation in field work as needed to meet project objectives and client expectations.
  • Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams and,
  • Travel to project locations, as well as to Client offices and other Thurber Branch offices.

Overview

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Prince George, British Columbia. Relocation assistance from within Canada may be available.


Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.


Responsibilities

This senior engineering position is primarily office-based with occasional field work,with opportunities for continued career growth within the company.

Base Salary Range


  • $130,000 - $200,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.

  • The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.

  • The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.

  • Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
