Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our hydropower team across Canada, based in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Québec City, Montréal or Saguenay. You will manage mechanical projects and lead client communications, from feasibility to detailed design, while mentoring junior engineers and promoting safety and reliability of hydroelectric systems.

You will collaborate with multiple offices and clients, travel to sites as needed, and contribute to innovative, sustainable solutions

Qualifications

• University degree in mechanical engineering.
• 5–14 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial mechanics.
• CEP licensed or P.Eng registered in another province.
• Driver’s license.
• Advanced English and French skills for collaboration across offices and clients.
• Experience with hydropower plants and dams is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical projects involving hydromechanical valves, cranes, gantries, and related equipment.
• Lead client communications for mandates and ensure technical quality.
• Drive small to large greenfield and retrofit projects from feasibility to detailed design.
• Perform onsite inspections, diagnostics, commissioning and testing.
• Identify client needs and ensure safe, reliable equipment operations across projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing within the Hydropower team.

An Overview Of Your Future Role At BBA

You’ll join our team of about 20 specialists in hydropower plant mechanical engineering, working on hydroelectric projects across Canada. You’ll be based in our Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Québec City, Montréal or Saguenay office. You’ll also play a key role in all phases of engineering projects, ensuring exceptional technical quality of deliverables. You’ll visit sites occasionally and identify and develop new business opportunities as they arise. You’ll also serve as a mentor to support the growth of our Hydropower team

• Manage various mechanical projects involving hydromechanical valves, cranes and gantries, overhead cranes, cofferdams and associated auxiliary equipment
• Play a leading role in client communications for your mandates
• Be a key team member in executing small to major greenfield and retrofit projects
• Solve complex problems related to mechanical components in hydropower plants
• Identify, plan and organize client needs to ensure equipment used to operate, maintain and secure hydroelectric structures are safe and reliable from the feasibility study to the detailed equipment design phase

• Represent your area of expertise and promote it to potential clients and specialized groups in the hydropower sector
• Mentor and coach junior engineers by actively sharing your knowledge and encouraging skill development within the team

Summary of job requirements

• University degree in mechanical engineering
• From 5 to 14 years of relevant experience in the heavy industrial mechanics sector
• Relevant experience with inspections, condition assessments, installation, commissioning and testing
• Certified member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (CEP) or registered P.Eng. with another Canadian province
• Driver’s licence
• Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects
• Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec
• Asset: experience with hydropower plants and dams
