Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our mining and utilities practice in Canada. You will work on challenging projects from concept to commissioning, focusing on power distribution, substation design, and protective relays.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, develop and review electrical diagrams, specs, and calculations, and support client coordination. A strong foundation in power systems and effective communication are essential to succeed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university.
• Approximately six years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
• P.Eng. designation in Canada or eligibility for registration preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in the mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial sector.
• Good understanding of medium-voltage and high-voltage power distribution systems.
• Experience with electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, circuit breakers, protection relays, motors, VFDs, cables and grounding systems.
• Familiarity with standards and codes such as CEC, CSA, IEEE and relevant utility standards.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and electrical design/documentation practices.
• Strong writing and communication skills; ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Asset: experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, CYME).

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical engineering and design activities for mining, industrial and utility projects.
• Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment specs, data sheets, cable schedules and load lists.
• Conduct or support load-flow, short-circuit, voltage-drop, motor-starting, protection-coordination, arc-flash and grounding studies.
• Support design of MV/HV substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs and protection systems.
• Provide engineering support for mining facilities, processing plants, conveyors and pumping systems.
• Coordinate electrical design requirements with other disciplines.
• Participate in project meetings, design reviews and client coordination meetings.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning.
• Review RFIs, shop drawings and field changes.
• Site visits and collection of existing electrical system data.
• Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes and applicable standards.

We’re seeking an intermediate electrical engineer withapproximately six years of relevant engineering experience, primarily withinthe mining and industrial sectors, with additional exposure to electricalutility and power distribution projects.

You’ll support multidisciplinary engineering projects,from conceptual and feasibility studies through to detailed design,procurement, construction and commissioning. You must have a solidunderstanding of electrical power systems, medium- and high-voltage equipmentand industrial electrical distribution systems.
