Job summary

KGS Group in Mississauga is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to lead and support multi-disciplinary hydroelectric and heavy industrial projects. You will manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables while collaborating with engineers across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; postgraduate degree is an asset.
• 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering preferred.
• Registered or eligible for Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO); other provinces an asset.
• Consulting experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of power distribution systems up to medium voltage.
• Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and relevant standards.
• Willingness to travel to project sites; valid driver’s license; security clearance checks possible.

Responsibilities

• Design modifications to electrical systems for hydroelectric and heavy industrial projects.
• Support multi-project delivery from proposal through completion; manage budgets and schedules.
• Assist substation layout development and HV/MV equipment installation.
• Prepare high/medium/low voltage single-line diagrams with protection and relaying.
• Prepare equipment schematic diagrams and terminal wiring diagrams.
• Design substation grounding using CEDEGS software.
• Conduct power system analyses using ETAP or EasyPower.
• Familiarity with PSCAD and PSSI tools for dynamic analysis is a plus.
• Provide construction support: review drawings, coordinate with contractors and owners, site inspections.
• Prepare and review specifications and reports.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to meet quality, schedule, and budget goals.
• Manage and mentor junior staff.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Department in our Mississauga office. In this role, you’ll manage and support multi-disciplinary projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules. Working in a team environment, you will ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and up to high-quality standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Design modifications to,or entirely new, electrical systems related to hydroelectric and heavy industrial projects
• Support the delivery of multiple projects involving hydroelectric power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, from proposal development through to project completion
• Support substation layout development and the installation of high and medium voltage equipment
• Prepare high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage single line diagrams with protection & relaying
• Prepare equipment schematic diagrams and terminal wiring diagrams
• Design substation grounding using CEDEGS software
• Conduct power system analysis, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and motor starting studies using ETAP or EasyPower
• Familiarity with PSCAD and PSSI tools for dynamic analysis would be an asset
• Provide construction support services, including reviewing shop drawings, coordinating communication between contractors and the owner, and conducting site inspections
• Prepare and review specifications and reports
• Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensuring that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met
• Manage and mentor junior staff

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant bringing forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university; a postgraduate degree is an asset
• Preferred 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering
• Registered or eligible to become registered with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), registration in other Canadian provinces would be an asset
• Previous consulting experience is preferred
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support is preferred
• Detailed knowledge of power distribution systems up to medium-voltage level
• Knowledge of hydro stations is an asset
• Previous experience with power systems studies is an asset
• Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and relevant electrical standards
• Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects is preferred
• Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks

The salary range for this role is between $95,000 to $130,000 annually.
