Our Energy & Resources team is a key player in the energy transition, with over 700 professionals focused on this sector. We support projects from feasibility to commissioning, specializing in renewable energy and resource transformation, providing innovative solutions tailored to client needs.

Based out of Vancouver (or Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon), the Intermediate Electrical Distribution Engineer will provide technical expertise in electrical distribution infrastructure, including poles, wires, vaults, duct banks, and cables, in compliance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Support the efficient operation of the distribution team, from responding to service requests to project delivery.
  2. Develop design work packages with scope, schedule, and effort estimates.
  3. Assist in resolving design and field engineering issues through independent studies and analysis, exercising judgment to recommend safe engineering designs.
  4. Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders, defining scope, establishing design criteria, and reporting on work progress.
  5. Provide specialized expertise in Distribution, setting high standards for work performance and influencing standards and targets for junior team members.
  6. Innovate by proposing modifications to improve work processes, guidelines, and standards.
  7. Design overhead and underground facilities for voltages up to 35kV, including line rebuilds, structure replacements, and cable upgrades.
  8. Attend site visits for project data collection, troubleshooting, construction support, and quality assurance.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering experience with specific Distribution knowledge, ideally within British Columbia.
  • P.Eng designation or eligibility to attain it in Canada.
  • Experience working with utilities in Western Canada.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems at voltages up to 35kV.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate technical options and present solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with GIS, CAD, and drawing standards.
  • Proficiency with industry software such as SPIDAcalc and PLSCAD.
  • Ability to collaborate with remote teams and maintain effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Western Canada.
