Intermediate Data Management Specialist, Oncology

Join to apply for the Intermediate Data Management Specialist, Oncology role at University of Calgary.

**Description**

The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Intermediate Data Management Specialist. This full-time, fixed-term position is for approximately 12 months, with the possibility of extension, depending on grant funding.

The position focuses on developing and implementing reproducible coding pipelines to automate cleaning and processing of data related to lung cancer studies, including the implementation and optimization of lung cancer screening in Alberta and the development of early detection methods.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines
  2. Coding for existing and new data pipelines daily
  3. Reporting progress to supervisors and team
  4. Documenting and communicating processes using various tools
  5. Handling advanced data processing and management tasks with independent judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  6. Additional data tasks such as developing data management pipelines, assisting with grant writing, managing data tools, manipulating large datasets, conducting statistical analyses, implementing machine learning methods, conducting data quality checks, and preparing scientific reports

**Qualifications / Requirements:**

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Data Science, or related; M.Sc. preferred
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python, R)
  • Experience with tabular and non-tabular data formats
  • Interest or experience with medical imaging data formats (e.g., DICOM)
  • Database management skills (e.g., SQL)
  • At least one year of data management experience in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, or clinical studies is an asset
  • Interest in developing data science skills is an asset
