Purpose

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our Consulting team in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta, Canada, or Houston, Texas. This position is ideal for an engineer with 3-8 years of experience who is looking to expand their technical expertise while developing consulting, client engagement, and project delivery skills. Working alongside experienced consultants and engineers, you will support studies, assessments, engineering evaluations, digital transformation initiatives, automation projects, operational improvement programs, and project development activities across the energy, chemicals, mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Support consulting assignments related to controls, automation, process control, and industrial digitalization.
  • Ability to work independently & efficiently with guidance of a lead engineer when required.
  • Assist with technical studies, assessments, analyses, and recommendations for client projects.
  • Support development of engineering and consulting deliverables including technical reports, specifications, datasheets, logic drawings, cause and effects, controls markups on P&IDs, control narratives, logic diagrams, and presentations.
  • Support project development activities through concept selection, FEL, FEED, and detailed engineering phases.
  • Assist with preparation of project proposals, estimates, scopes of work, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, and multidisciplinary project reviews.
  • Support evaluation and selection of control systems, automation technologies, and digital solutions.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Identify technical issues, develop practical solutions, and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and applicable engineering standards.
What You Will Bring
Technical and Industry Experience:
  • Intermediate level of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, automation, process control, fiber optic architecture and project delivery.
  • Good understanding of control system design principles and engineering deliverables.
  • Willingness to learn, grow and embrace challenges.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary projects in industrial, energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Strong analytical, communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary and client-facing teams.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or P.E.) registration or ability to obtain registration.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working within an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) or EPCM environment.
  • Familiarity with FEL, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Experience with industrial automation systems including PLC, DCS and SCADA systems.
  • Experience participating in HAZOPs, LOPAs, control system assessments, or risk reviews.
  • Knowledge of ISA, IEC, NFPA, API, CSA, or other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience in energy, chemicals, mining, industrial, nuclear infrastructure, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.
Required
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
