Stantec’s Buildings team is seeking an Intermediate Architectural Technologist to support complex projects through construction completion. The role blends design expertise with field coordination, requiring strong communication with architects, engineers, contractors and owners on-site.

The successful candidate will travel to project sites across Canada, maintain a regular site presence, and ensure contract documents, design intent and project specs are followed during construction.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Intermediate Architectural Technologist to support the delivery of complex construction projects through construction completion. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and project stakeholders while maintaining a regular presence on construction sites. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys combining technical architectural expertise with field coordination and construction administration responsibilities. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively with site personnel and multidisciplinary teams, and a practical understanding of building construction and contract administration processes.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Administration and Site Presence

• Maintain a regular on-site presence, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 50% of working time at sites.
• Act as a field representative of the architectural team, supporting project delivery throughout the construction phase.
• Monitor construction progress for compliance with contract documents, design intent, project specifications.
• Conduct site reviews and document observations, deficiencies, non-conforming work, and construction progress.
• Prepare detailed site reports, and construction administration records.
• Assist in the review and processing of Requests for Information (RFIs), Site Instructions (SIs), and Submittals/Shop Drawings.

Design-Build Project Coordination

• Coordinate architectural requirements with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, security, technology, and specialty consultant disciplines.
• Support real-time resolution of field conditions, constructability issues, coordination conflicts, and unforeseen site conditions.
• Work collaboratively with contractor site personnel, superintendents, project managers, and trade contractors to facilitate project execution and maintain schedule objectives.
• Participate in regular design coordination, construction progress, commissioning, and stakeholder meetings.

Technical and Design Support

• Review construction activities to ensure architectural design intent is maintained throughout project execution.
• Assist in evaluating proposed design modifications, value engineering opportunities, and alternative construction approaches.
• Contribute to the preparation and revision of drawings, sketches, field details, and technical documentation as required.
• Support interdisciplinary quality reviews and constructability assessments during both design and construction phases.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

• Foster positive working relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively with site personnel to identify and resolve issues in a collaborative and professional manner.
• Provide clear and timely communication regarding site findings, risks, schedule impacts, and coordination requirements.
• Represent the firm professionally during site meetings, inspections, and client engagements.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in architectural technology, construction administration, or related project delivery roles.
• Demonstrated experience on large, complex projects delivered through Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, or other alternative delivery models.
• Proven ability to work effectively within active construction environments and multidisciplinary project teams.

Security Clearance

• Must currently possess, or be eligible to obtain, Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance.
• Experience working on Defence Construction Canada (DCC), Department of National Defence (DND), federal government, aviation, justice, security, or other controlled-access projects is considered an asset.

Travel Requirements

• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout Canada.
• Travel and part time site presence will be required to support major construction projects.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel by air as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a technically strong Architectural Technologist who is comfortable operating within a fast-paced Design-Build environment, balancing office-based design coordination with significant field responsibilities. The successful Intermediate Architectural Technologist will serve as a trusted field-based representative of the architectural team, effectively coordinating between construction personnel, clients, consultants, and project stakeholders while ensuring construction activities are implemented in accordance with contract documents, design intent, and project objectives.

Expected Time Allocation

• Approximately 50% Site Presence: Construction field reviews, contractor coordination, site meetings, inspections, and issue resolution.
• Approximately 50% Office-Based Responsibilities: Drawing reviews, contract administration documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, report preparation, and project support activities.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
