Job summary

Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning seeks an Intermediate Architectural Designer or Technologist to join the Toronto team. Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited B. Arch program; 5–10 years of Mass Timber experience required.
• Registration or intern registration with a provincial regulatory board is an asset.
• Demonstrated design aptitude and graphic capabilities.
• Knowledge of building codes and by-laws.
• Knowledge of construction practices.
• Proficient in design software; Revit knowledge required.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships and work well within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan projects with PM or Project Leader to create work plans, scope, budgets, and staffing.
• Deliver design concepts, presentations, and required documentation.
• Coordinate permit submissions and design development.
• Prepare specifications and assist in detailed project specifications.
• Support client presentations and design/production meetings.
• Maintain project records and monitor budget and schedule.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and passionate Intermediate Architectural Designer or Technologist to join our Toronto team. In this role, you will contribute to exciting and complex projects while working closely with Senior Designers, Project Managers, and multidisciplinary teams to bring design concepts through technical development and delivery. Depending on the project, you may take ownership of the design process for small to medium-sized projects or serve as a key design and technical resource on larger assignments. Experience working on Mass Timber projects is required.

Business Development

• May assist with business development by contributing to proposals, attending interviews, etc.

Here’s what you’ll be doing at Kasian:

Project Planning

• Work with Project Manager (PM) or other Project Leader (Job Captain, Design Team Leader, etc.) to create work plans, drawing units, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirements
• In cooperation with the PM, review and monitor project scope and initiate corrective actions as required

Project Delivery

• Assist with the Kasian design process including creation of design concepts, presentation material, and required submission documentation
• Participate in the production of successful design and contract documentation in alignment with Kasian’s standards of quality, client program, and budget needs
• Prepare outline specifications and assist in detailed project specification development
• Coordinate building and development permit submissions
• Participate in client and public presentations
• Participate in design and production meetings
• Work alongside the PM to build relationships with clients by proactively responding to program and budget requirements
• Work with supervisor and authorities having jurisdiction to interpret and conform to codes and bylaws
• Properly maintain project records

Project Review

• Advise supervisor immediately of any project performance issues and work to resolve problems, including ongoing review of project quality and monitoring of budget and schedule
• Ensure that competent peer reviews are conducted at project milestones
