About the Position

This is a hybrid position for one of the top 20 accounting firms in Canada.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, execute and complete small / mid size audit, review and compilation files and related tax preparation
  • Recognizes relevant accounting and audit issues from basic analysis
  • Understands the technical standards with the expected level of assistance and supervision
  • Maintains technical knowledge – IFRS, ASPE, CAS - by : attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks
  • Drafts corporate tax returns and prepare appropriate tax checklists
  • Prepares personal tax returns including gathering, sorting and entering client information into TaxPrep
  • Builds effective working relationships in assignments with operational client contacts
  • Responds effectively to client requests
  • Begins to perform research and prepare more complex opinions for technical conclusions on client engagements
  • Provides suggestions related to an assignment or project
  • May support and coach junior staff members or staff accountants on the team

  • Completion of a University Accounting degree and working towards obtaining their CPA designation
  • Development of a business advisor mindset is important
  • Thorough understanding of ASPE, CAS and Canadian Tax to be able to complete the more complex areas of an engagement.
  • Experience with ASPE preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with external clients
  • Possess strong project management skills and organization, with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Caseware, Jazz-it, Tax Prep, QuickBooks and Simply Accounting
