POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a talented and organized Interior Design - Project Coordinator & Experiential Designer to guide the visual design, layout, and merchandising of our franchisee’s academies. This critical role bridges creative design and operational execution, ensuring all academies reflect our brand while optimizing space for an outstanding student experience. You will collaborate with internal teams, franchisees, and external architects/designers to create inspiring, functional learning environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design Leadership:

  • Develop and maintain Academy Design Standards and Brand Guidelines for interiors, finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and signage.
  • Create and update prototype design packages (test fits, concept layouts, design boards) for new academy design and development.
  • Consult and collaborate with local architects and designers hired by franchisees to ensure brand compliance and functional excellence.
  • Review and approve design proposals, construction drawings, and materials selections submitted by franchisee teams.
  • Provide space planning advice to optimize the educational environment: maker spaces, fabrication areas, reception areas, and merchandising spaces.

Experiential Designer:

  • Develop and oversee visual standards for academy retail and common areas (e.g., levels progress wall, prize station, project displays, special events and promotions, etc.).
  • Recommend display fixtures and merchandising layouts that support academy sales and enhance the student experience.

Project Management:

  • Create templates, workflows, and approval processes to streamline academy design and merchandising rollouts.
  • Support the onboarding of new franchisees by guiding them through the academy design and buildout phases.
  • Maintain a library of vendors, materials, and fixture resources.
  • Participate in regular site visits (virtual or in-person) to ensure adherence to standards during buildouts and refresh projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Visual Merchandising, or related field.
  • NCIDQ certification
  • 5+ years of experience in interior design, preferably within retail, education, or franchise environments.
  • Strong understanding of brand standards, space planning, and visual storytelling through environment design.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), or similar tools.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills; able to handle multiple projects across different markets.
  • Knowledge of basic construction and permitting processes.
  • Experience collaborating with architects and contractors.
  • Passion for education, children’s environments, and STEM learning.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to new or existing franchise locations for site assessments and merchandising support.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience working with franchised business models.
  • Retail merchandising experience (education, children's products, or tech categories ideal).
