Interim - Senior Vice President Marketing

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Duration: 3 Months

Location: Toronto, ON

Our client, a high-profile national charity, is seeking a Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications for a 3-month engagement to lead a focused period of strategic transformation. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior-level consultant with deep expertise in marketing & communications, brand strategy, content leadership, marketing modernization, and cross-organizational alignment.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Director, Operations the consultant will assess the organization’s current communications and marketing approach, provide actionable recommendations, and work with internal teams to implement high-impact improvements. This includes guiding marketing & Communications strategy, brand messaging, strengthening content quality, aligning with key internal functions (HR, IT, and others), and ensuring a cohesive voice across fundraising, events, digital, social media, website, and community engagement efforts.

Scope of Work & Key Deliverables

Strategic Communications & Brand Alignment

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the organization’s brand and marketing strategies, identifying opportunities for greater clarity, consistency, and audience impact.
  • Advise the CEO and Director, Operations on strategic positioning and narrative development.
  • Develop a short-term, actionable communications and marketing plan aligned with organizational goals.

Content Oversight & Editorial Direction

  • Provide leadership and oversight across key content channels, including donor communications, newsletters, campaign materials, annual reports, digital content, and promotional assets.
  • Strengthen messaging frameworks that reflect the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and client impact.
  • Guide the refresh of the organization’s website to improve content, usability, and brand experience.
  • Advise on digital strategy, including social media, fundraising engagement tools, lead generation, and marketing automation.
  • Explore opportunities to leverage emerging technologies (e.g., AI) to improve efficiency and reach.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal hospital MarCom team to ensure that all communications and marketing activities are aligned with organizational policies, systems, and internal communications needs.
  • Collaborate with service delivery, fundraising, and events teams to ensure consistency and strategic alignment across all touchpoints.
  • Support planning and messaging for major fundraising and donor engagement initiatives.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Review and provide recommendations for the right Org Structure and Job Descriptions for the MarCom team.
  • Lead and support the existing communications and marketing team members during a period of transition, offering guidance on priorities, workflows, and internal collaboration.
  • Provide tools, templates, and training to strengthen long-term capacity and consistency.
  • Foster a culture of clarity, creativity, and accountability.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years in senior leadership roles in communications, marketing, and brand strategy — ideally within the nonprofit or public sectors.
  • Proven experience as a consultant or interim leader guiding organizational transformation.
  • Strong strategic and editorial instincts with the ability to oversee and elevate content across platforms.
  • Demonstrated success aligning marketing with digital, fundraising, and events functions.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills — with experience working alongside hospital MarCom team to support integrated internal and external communications.
  • Thoughtful, confident leadership style with strong team coaching and change management skills.
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian nonprofit and donor environment.
