POSITION TYPE : Full Time (35 hours per week) Fixed Term (12month parental leave coverage). Some weekends and evenings required a few times during the year as it relates to grants adjudication committee and Board meetings.

REPORTS TO : Director of Finance

LOCATION : Our office is in downtown Vancouver; however we provide the option to work remotely from anywhere in BC.

OFFICE ACCESSIBILITY : Our office is located on the 15th floor of a building with elevator access. Washrooms are gender neutral. The office has a dedicated Privacy room that is bookable and can be used for rest sensory reduction prayer or other needs.

SALARY : $110966 to 141790 per year based on experience. We expect someone new to the Foundation to start at the lower end of this range.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Interim Senior Accountant is a member of a dynamic Law Foundation team that is working to create amplify and support innovative solutions to difficult access to justice challenges and systemic inequities that affect the wellbeing of diverse communities in British Columbia.

Reporting to the Director of Finance the Interim Senior Accountant plays a critical role within the Foundation maintaining financial records carrying out monthend close responsibilities supporting the preparation of financial reports and conducting analysis. The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about the Foundations values is curious and adaptable has a sound foundation in accounting and is committed to efficiency accuracy and clarity.

The Foundation is at an exciting juncture in its history with opportunities in all areas of its work to breathe life into the new strategic plan. It is also in a period of transition following leadership renewal and pursuing structural and operational change to respond to the new challenges it faces. While the implementation of the five strategic priorities is an allofFoundation endeavour it is intended that this position advances the Foundations mission through the key focus area of Building a Thriving Foundation which aims to provide the Foundation with strong infrastructure and resources to serve its mandate.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • MonthEnd Close : Support the monthend close process by preparing and completing necessary financial activities accurately and on time.
  • Journal Entries and Account Reconciliations : Work closely with the accounting team to prepare working papers journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis : Support in the preparation of periodic financial reports by ensuring data is uptodate and accurate any required adjustments are accounted for and completing reporting on time.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis : Assist with updating the Foundations grantmaking budget and preparing monthly reporting on grant expenditures and forecasts. Assist with cash flow analyses and forecasts.
  • Variance Analysis : Support the accounting team in performing indepth analysis of monthend variances between actual results and budgeted / forecasted amounts providing explanations for items of significance.
  • Internal Controls : Carry out internal controls and ensure that controls are executed completely and on time. Carry out selfreview testing of internal controls and prepare reporting and recommendations. Make recommendations for new or improved internal controls.
  • Accounting Policies : Ensure accounting policies are complete current and are adhered to.
  • Memoranda : Prepare memos on technical accounting matters policies and other accounting and finance topics as needed.
  • Accounting Systems and Processes : Continuously evaluate and improve monthend and daytoday processes including the utilization of tools and other efficient ways to further streamline recurring and adhoc tasks.
  • Audit Support : Collaborate with internal and external auditors during the audit process. Provide requested documentation explanations and supporting schedules to facilitate a successful audit.
  • Adhoc Projects : Provide support and take lead in any adhoc finance projects on an asneeded basis.
  • Relationship Management : Collaborate with various internal and external contacts including senior management crossfunctional teammates and external parties such as auditors tax advisors and regulatory authorities. Build strong relationships and ensure effective communication.

Note : This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Law Foundation of British Columbia. This job may require infrequent travel within the province.

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The Interim Senior Accountant will have one or a combination (or equivalent) of the following :

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent certification and / or experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with a variety of accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles financial reporting and business law and compliance.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or foundation environment is an asset.

WORK CONDITIONS

Primarily work remotely from home but ability to be onsite at the Foundations office or other locations for team meetings and gatherings.

For each interview conducted by the Foundation candidates are compensated for one hour of preparation time and one hour spent in an interview at a rate of $120 per hour. Compensation is sent by way of etransfer.
