Job description

Interim Medical Advisor, Cannabis (Part-time)

Reporting to: Chief Science Officer

Duration: 6 - 18 months

Our client, a Canadian cannabis company with a global footprint, is in urgent need of an Interim Medical Advisor to support internal clients and advocate for external stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of the components, effects and dosage forms of cannabis and will be a strong communicator that enjoys collaborating within a team setting. This lucrative, part-time position requires an MD, PharmD or PhD with clinical experience. It is a fully remote role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide independent medical and scientific oversight of post-market materials to ensure clinical accuracy, evidence-based content, and adherence to local regulations;
  • Establish and reinforce medical governance guardrails, supporting clear separation between medical education and commercial promotion;
  • Provide strategic clinical guidance to inform product positioning, portfolio decisions, and lifecycle planning grounded in real-world clinical practice and patient needs;
  • Interpret emerging clinical evidence and real-world data to support responsible, defensible commercial decision-making;
  • Support non-promotional scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and supporting relationships within the medical ecosystem (healthcare professionals and organizations (clinical/research); advocacy;
  • Support Marketing, Sales, Legal and Regulatory Affairs to ensure correct, consistent and compliant communication/publication/marketing with a view to increasing prescriber confidence and enabling sustained growth in a highly regulated and evolving industry;
  • Represent company at key conferences, events, and forums as required;
  • Coordinate safety reporting and signal detection for medical cannabis usage, and pharmacovigilance;
  • Support relationships development with external partners and prospect organizations i.e. healthcare professionals, healthcare organizations, patient community groups, advocacies and insurers and unions;
  • Support business intelligence analysis and evaluation of medical market conditions and support management in achieving business objectives;

Competencies and Requirements:

  • MD, PharmD or PhD is a must-have requirement;
  • Knowledge of medical cannabis/cannabinoids, dosing/titration, and patient populations (veterans, chronic pain, oncology, neurology etc.);
  • Understanding of healthcare systems, patient journeys, and market dynamics;
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable messages and provide presentations to executives and external groups;
  • High emotional intelligence, diplomacy and collaboration skills;
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations;
  • Proactive problem solver with a solution-oriented mindset;
