Job description

Major, Lindsey & Africa’s client has an immediate need for a full-time Interim Litigation / Regulatory Counsel.

Overview: Our client is seeking a full-time Interim Litigation / Regulatory Counsel.
Company: Mining company
Experience: Successful candidates will have at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Location: Remote with occasional travel to Arizona.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Advise on environmental and regulatory matters, including: environmental remediation; environmental clean-up and liability; land contamination; radioactive waste management; water regulation.
  • Work with outside counsel to manage litigation, develop litigation strategy, coordinate internal discovery, schedule and coordinate depositions.
  • Advise on federal regulatory issues before the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and equivalent state agencies.
  • Advise on mining permitting and approvals, as relevant to mine closure and post-mining, in Arizona and New Mexico.
  • Provide commercial support as needed, with: (1) Contract negotiations with contract labor. Agreements are $100M+ and mostly managed by procurement, with some legal review needed. (2) Advise on small M&A deals. (3) Advise on joint venture and conduct risk analysis.

Qualifications Include:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, with in-house experience highly preferred.
  • Substantive experience with complex litigation, particularly environmental disputes. Experience with CERCLA (the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act)litigation is a plus.
  • Substantive and regulatory experience, particularly before EPA, DOE, NRC, and equivalent state agencies.
  • Experience in mining, particularly with mining regulations and approvals in Arizona and New Mexico, highly preferred.
  • Some experience advising on contract review, joint ventures, and M&A transactions.


Pay Range: $100-130/hour
