Interface Manager
Company Description
A subsidiary of Veolia group, Veolia North America (VNA) provides environmental services across North America, including water and wastewater treatment, waste collection and disposal, energy consulting and resource recovery. The Interface Manager will be part of the Program Team supporting three major projects worth approximately $3 billion, working with the City of Winnipeg and Veolia employees. The role is based at the City of Winnipeg Waste and Waste Engineering Department (1199 Pacific) and at the North End Sewage Treatment Plant (NEWPCC).
Under the general direction of the Program Leader, the Interface Manager assists in the management and delivery of capital projects to upgrade Winnipeg’s three sewage treatment plants to meet Provincial effluent license limits and the Water Protection Act. The projects are fast-paced, highly complex, high-risk, public-facing, and delivered using alternative procurement methods.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and assistance during the Project Planning and Initiation Phase of individual major capital projects, including support for deliverables such as the Project Delivery Plan, Interface Management Protocols and contractor communication plans; assist in high-level Constructability Reviews and critical tie-ins into existing infrastructure.
- Provide leadership, expert advice, and assistance during the Project Development Phase, including participation in working groups; advising in the development of contract documents; reviewing Construction Management Plans; reviewing Detailed Constructability Documents / Deliverables; reviewing Workforce management plans; reviewing schedules and cost estimates; participating in the development of commissioning plans.
- Provide leadership, expert advice, and assistance during the Construction and Commissioning phase, including reviewing Contract Change Orders, Requests for Information, Non-Conformance Reports; managing communication and outputs between all on-site contractors and facility operations/maintenance staff; reviewing proposed shutdown scopes of work and coordinating with plant staff to ensure safe and efficient operations; managing interfaces between various projects, stakeholders and the facility.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience :
- Construction Management Degree, Certified Engineering Technologist Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, Construction Management, or equivalent knowledge.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience with 5 years’ experience directly related to Construction Management.
- Experience with construction tie-ins and interfacing of existing facilities, coordination with operations for shutdowns or process equipment, and working with multiple trades and contractor personnel.
- Knowledge of environmental challenges and Veolia’s role; familiarity with current local or global environmental issues is an advantage.
- Ability to coordinate multiple work fronts across organizations with different scopes of work.
- Good understanding of construction trades, wastewater processes and quality management.
- Working knowledge of ACONEX is an asset.
- Experience using Google Workspace is an asset.
- Ability to coordinate progress across internal and external program team members and to analyze complex data and large technical reports.
- Strong planning, organization, and time management skills; attention to detail; ability to handle diverse tasks and interruptions; ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and to assume additional or new responsibilities; strong oral and written communication skills and ability to independently compose routine communications; ability to adapt communication style for diverse audiences from construction site to senior management; ability to guide others and deliver through others without direct management control; strong partnering abilities to develop networks and build alliances.
Work Environment
Permanent, full-time position from Monday to Friday. Site/office work with the ability to work remotely up to two days per week.
Possible Work Hazards
Exposure to industrial and construction plant hazards including excavations, noise, heavy equipment, fumes and chemicals; safety considerations for site work.
Physical Demands
Per the job, tasks require sitting, use of hands, reaching, talking and hearing. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. May lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance and color vision with ability to adjust focus.
