Here's the Scoop - Summary

The Intercompany Accountant manages all intercompany transactions within the company, between Champion Petfoods entities, and between Champion Petfoods and their parent company, Mars Inc.

This role oversees transfer pricing between legal entities and executes adjustments based on Mars guidelines and Champion's model.

The successful candidate will be a finance professional acting as an intercompany expert within the General Accounting Team in the Finance department.

The Intercompany Accountant is based in our Edmonton corporate office and reports to the Corporate Controller.

What a typical day looks like?

  1. Oversee all intercompany activities across Champion Petfoods entities, including intercompany with the Mars group.
  2. Record cross-charges from other Mars entities, ensuring accuracy, resolving inquiries/discrepancies with business partners.
  3. Manage the Mars intercompany settlement process (ICNetting platform), including multi-currency impacts.
  4. Create and update intercompany price lists in the ERP, ensuring controls and acting as the point of contact for intercompany pricing.
  5. Maintain expertise on ERP intercompany processes, including multi-currency requirements.
  6. Administer transfer pricing charges, analyze and evaluate models with the Mars ICTC team.
  7. Reconcile intercompany accounts, create manual invoices if needed, collaborating with A/R and A/P teams.
  8. Maintain records of intercompany agreements and verify compliance.
  9. Assist the tax team with supporting schedules for corporate tax returns.
  10. Perform period-end reconciliation tasks supporting the close schedule.
  11. Support continuous improvement initiatives within Finance and other business units.
  12. Participate in diverse accounting and reporting activities to support business operations.
  13. Demonstrate business acumen and partnership, fostering high-performance collaboration.
  14. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of financial records.

What we are looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience such as finance key user or business expert.
  • Knowledge of transfer pricing and intercompany settlement practices.
  • Understanding of accounting policies and frameworks; US GAAP knowledge considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with high accuracy.
  • Analytical skills for complex transactions.
  • Solid accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate across teams and entities.
  • Experience with accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
  • Self-directed with integrity and professionalism, capable of working independently and in teams.
  • Ability to analyze financial reports and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Technological proficiency with ERP systems, Excel, PowerBi, and data translation tools.
  • Respect for confidentiality regarding financial and operational information.
  • Extended hours and travel may be required.
