Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer (P.Eng. with EGBC) for Building Services Electrical (including HVAC, fire alarms, security, life safety)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Engineer Job Duties

1. Direct and coordinate electrical planning and implementation ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and work order requirements
2. Report work compliance with relevant codes, standards and procedures
3. Provide designs such items as cable tray layouts, electrical equipment arrangements, lighting layouts and LV single line diagrams
4. Provide electrical calculations such as volt-drop, EHT heat loss, illumination level, distribution transformer sizing and panel loading
5. Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
6. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software such as AutoCAD & MicroStation/PDS
7. Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
8. Create technical reports, documentation, calculations and sketches
9. Develop sustainable work relationships to ensure positive resolutions with all contacts
10. Perform electrical studies as assigned
11. Create conceptual designs for assigned projects
12. Create specifications as needed
13. Prepare cost estimates and equipment layouts
14. Oversee the implementation of designs
15. Provide resource estimates and schedules for projects
16. Make technical decisions
17. Direct and coordinate other electrical part of the project team
18. Maintain records of project resources
19. Participate in department training programs
20. Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices
21. Business Development Support
22. Support the Business Development Team (BD) to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships
23. Support the BD team to grow and develop a new customer base
24. Support BD activities including but not limited to proposal preparation, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc. for the purpose of networking and promoting the company

QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL SOFTWARE SKILLS

1. 5 to 8 years’ work experience from graduation level, possible PMP designation or relevant work experience.
2. Professional Engineer's designation in BC or in another Canadian Province.
3. Demonstrated design of distribution related electrical systems is considered an asset
4. Demonstrated design of Building Systems, e.g., fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls
5. Demonstrated design of Hospitals, e.g., nurse call, normal, vital and delayed vital power systems, fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls
6. Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principals
7. Demonstrated use of ETAP, a power system analysis software
8. Demonstrated use of AGI32, a lighting analysis software
9. Beginner to Intermediate skills with drafting tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT and/or MicroStation is preferred.
10. Able to conduct detailed calculations to ensure that designs meet engineered standards and applicable codes
11. Experience with multiple phases of projects including preliminary and detailed design, tendering, construction supervision and commissioning is an asset
12. Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License to facilitate independent travel to project sites and other office locations
13. Excellent communication skills both oral and written
14. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a range of personalities to establish effective working relationships with the required stakeholders
