About Us

Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.

The Role

Reporting to the Sr. Engineer, Maintenance, in the maintenance engineering department, your knowledge of mechanical equipment and design will be relied upon to support surface and underground operations in a mining environment.

In this role, you will:

  1. Solve complex technical problems using formal techniques to evaluate systems, equipment, and failures.
  2. Maximize equipment availability, reliability, and performance through effective problem solving and proactive maintenance practices.
  3. Develop and refine asset-specific strategies to improve equipment health and to prevent or eliminate equipment failure.
  4. Work closely with maintenance personnel in the field to support daily maintenance activities and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  5. Provide technical support for new or modified site equipment, process changes, and drawings.
  6. Compile data and prepare technical reports or coordinate technical reporting as required for regulatory submission.
  7. Support site capital and expense projects ensuring project deliverables are met in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.

Required:

  1. Two to six years of relevant industry experience
  2. Eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
  3. Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  4. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  5. Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft

Recommended:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering
  2. Exposure to predictive maintenance techniques and technologies
  3. Experience in a mining/milling environment
  4. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems, preference for SAP experience
  5. Experience with planning and scheduling activities
  6. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

The Cigar Lake operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a two-week on/two-week off rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
