Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is seeking a Systems Technologist (Instrumentation) to troubleshoot, calibrate, and service industrial instrumentation at the Heritage site. You will support installation, maintenance programs, and fast repair responses to improve plant yield and reliability.

You will read PLC/HMI programs, work with Allen-Bradley and Siemens controls, and coordinate with engineering for equipment changes while upholding food safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to Global Standard for Food Safety and continual improvement.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Expert in reading/modifying PLC and HMI programming.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC; knowledge of Siemens control systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Test and maintain instruments for flow, level, pressure, temperature, and composition.
  • Input on equipment installation and preventive maintenance.
  • Drive yield improvements through planned maintenance and fast repairs.
  • Repair/adjust sensors, transmitters, and PLCs; replace defective parts.
  • Provide instrumentation support and training for plant electricians.
  • Liaise with engineering on equipment modifications.
  • Support new program launches for other departments.
  • Maintain plant controls specifications and parts lists for new equipment.
  • Design electrical schematics in AutoCAD for equipment changes.
  • Maintain calibration records and procedures.
  • Develop critical spare parts list for key equipment.
  • Install instruments on existing and new equipment; provide operational support.
  • Commit to Maple Leaf Foods' Global Food Safety standards.

The Opportunity

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Operations team, the Systems Technologist (Instrumentation) position at Heritage will be responsible for troubleshooting, servicing and calibrating industrial measuring and controlling instrumentation.

Reason for vacancy: Existing Headcount

Base Salary: $59,000 – $87,000 CAD base pay annually

The above base salary reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.

Snapshot Of a Day-in-the-Life
  • Determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing and processing.
  • Provide input on equipment installation, total predictive/preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Drive yield improvement through effective planned maintenance and fast response to repair issues.
  • Repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
  • Provide instrumentation support and training for plant electricians.
  • Liaison with engineering department on all related equipment modifications.
  • Provide support for all departments when launching new programs.
  • Maintain plant controls specification and parts list for new equipment entering the plant.
  • Design electrical schematics in AutoCAD format for any equipment changes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of calibration records and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain critical spare parts list for all key equipment.
  • Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes
  • Provide support for plant equipment when required.
  • Shall demonstrate full commitment to the implementation of the requirements of the Global Standard for Food Safety and to processes which facilitate continual improvement of food safety and quality management.
What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an environment utilizing Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Expert in process control systems with ability to read and modify PLC and HMI programming.
  • Specific expertise in Allen-Bradley PLC logic with good working knowledge of other control systems such as Siemens.
  • Logical approach for troubleshooting.
  • Progressive team player with focus on continuous improvement.
