INVISTA in Kingston, ON is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Specialist / Engineer to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of industrial instrumentation and control systems supporting manufacturing operations.

You will join a collaborative team working with operations, maintenance, project engineering, and reliability resources to solve challenges and improve performance. A base salary ranges CAD 90,000–140,000 with potential variable compensation.

Qualifications

  • - 3+ years of experience with industrial instrumentation and/or control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • - Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, or commissioning field instrumentation (transmitters, valves, analyzers).
  • - Ability to read instrumentation drawings, P&IDs, loop sheets, and wiring diagrams.
  • - Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and legal authorization to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • - Troubleshoot control loops end to end across field devices, wiring, I/O, controller logic, and HMI displays.
  • - Specify, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation including valves and measurement systems.
  • - Develop and modify PLC logic in Studio 5000 and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley drives.
  • - Support ABB 800xA DCS and virtualized server infrastructure.
  • - Produce I&C deliverables: P&IDs, loop/wiring diagrams, control narratives, I/O lists.
  • - Apply MOC and PSSR for control system changes and maintain proper documentation.
  • - Mentor technicians/engineers and share key learnings.
  • - Identify opportunities to improve process capability and asset reliability.

Instrumentation & Controls Specialist / Engineer (Engineering)
Your Job

INVISTA is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Specialist / Engineer to join our Kingston, ON site. In this role, you will be a key technical resource responsible for the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of industrial instrumentation and control systems supporting our manufacturing operations.

What You Will Do
  • Troubleshoot control loops end to end, including field devices, wiring and marshalling, I/O, controller logic, and HMI displays.
  • Specify, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation, including control valves and flow, level, pressure, and temperature measurement systems.
  • Develop and modify PLC logic in Studio 5000 (RSLogix 5000), and program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley drives.
  • Support the ABB 800xA DCS environment and the virtualized servers that keep control system infrastructure running.
  • Produce and maintain I&C deliverables including P&IDs, loop and wiring drawings, panel and marshalling design, motor control schematics, instrument datasheets, I/O lists, cable and tray schedules, control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, and engineering work packages.
  • Apply MOC and PSSR discipline to every control system change, with documentation that remains effective and useful for years to come.
  • Champion the standards that keep people safe, including ISA-84/IEC 61511 (SIS), IEC 62443 (OT cybersecurity), ISA-18.2 (alarm management), ISA-101 (HMI graphics), ISA-5.1, ANSI/ISA-75 (valve sizing), and IEC 61131-3.
  • Share what you know. Mentor technicians and engineers, document key learnings, and leave the site smarter than you found it.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve process capability, asset reliability, and operational effectiveness.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • 3+ years' experience working with industrial instrumentation and/or control systems in a manufacturing, chemical, refining, utilities, or similarly complex industrial environment
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, or commissioning field instrumentation, including measurement devices, analyzers, transmitters, and control valves
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving process measurement and control-loop performance issues
  • Experience interpreting instrumentation drawings, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to align priorities, coordinate activities, and achieve objectives
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or immigration support
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    • Engineering technology diploma, instrumentation or automation diploma, OR skilled-trades qualification, PLUS equivalent practical experience in instrumentation and controls
What Will Put You Ahead
  • 5+ years' engineering experience working with industrial instrumentation and control systems in a manufacturing, chemical, refining, utilities, or similarly complex industrial environment
  • Experience with Allen-Bridge PLC platforms, Studio 5000, and industrial networking technologies
  • Exposure to HART, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus DP and OPC (DA, AE, UA)
  • Experience with distributed control systems and operator interface applications
  • Experience with control valve sizing, diagnostics, and performance improvement
  • Experience applying ISA and IEC standards related to instrumentation, alarm management, safety systems, and industrial cybersecurity
  • Experience leading instrumentation and controls projects from concept through startup
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering and predictive maintenance practices

For this role, we anticipate paying a base salary of $90,000 to $140,000 CAD per year. This position is also eligible for variable compensation, which may be paid as a bonus or in another form.
