BWXT Medical is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at our production facility in Kanata, ON.

Work Location: On-Site - 447 March Road, Kanata

Job Purpose:

Performs and is responsible for varied engineering, scientific or applied scientific functions in the design, development, testing, and commissioning of company products. Has responsibility for the overall execution (budget and schedule) and technical performance of development projects or developed processes. Performs review and approval of process changes as Technical Design Authority.

Job Structure & Communications:

  • Reports to the Development Engineering Manager.
  • Has full control of project activities within budgetary constraints and reporting guidelines.
  • Normally makes independent decisions unless these conflict with guidelines, in which case, suggests alternative actions unless they have safety or environmental implications.

Accountabilities:

  • Identifies, plans, and carries out necessary research, design, and development associated with assigned projects.
  • Prepares concepts and solutions to technical problems.
  • Gains stakeholder consensus on scope of work and prepares estimates including costs and schedules.
  • Provides Project Leads with project management and technical oversight.
  • Provides direction and work instructions to assigned staff.
  • Assists with procurement of high-value equipment and systems.
  • Coordinates tasks internally and externally to achieve project objectives.
  • Provides technical assistance, including impact assessments of changes to validated products and technical justifications for quality dispositions.
  • Acts as Technical Authority to establish product and process requirements, approve changes, procedures, reports, and drawings.
  • May perform hands-on technical tasks for new projects.
  • May represent the company on committees, boards, panels, study groups, and commissions at national and international levels.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent post-secondary education qualifying for a professional designation, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience. Professional certifications are an asset.
  • Detailed technical knowledge in Instrumentation & Controls, Mechanical, and/or Chemical Engineering, with a good understanding of related disciplines.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate project team members.
  • Experience with computer system validations, knowledge of 21 CFR part 11, PLC programming and troubleshooting (preferably with Allen Bradley or Siemens).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA programming, ideally with FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or Ignition.
  • Experience integrating automated equipment into manufacturing, including design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Programming experience with Ladder Logic, SQL Server, machine vision.
  • QA systems and Fanuc or Motoman robot experience are assets.
  • Interest in the nuclear medicine industry and working with highly skilled employees.

The salary range in Ontario is expected to be between $89,000 and $139,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. The total compensation may include bonuses and other benefits, with details provided upon offer.
