Job summary

Hatch in Vancouver is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Engineer to join the Project Delivery Group. You will lead control system design, support project execution, and mentor junior staff across industrial projects from planning through construction.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng. registration (EGBC) and 7+ years in heavy industry, with expertise in PLC/DCS, Rockwell, DeltaV, ABB, AutoCAD, and SmartPlant tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required (P.Eng. preferred).
  • Experience: 7+ years in heavy industrial projects with instrumentation, control, and automation.
  • Proven ability to lead control system design activities.
  • Strong documentation, safety, and project-execution focus.

Hatch is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Engineer to join its Project Delivery Group in Vancouver. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of instrumentation and control systems for industrial projects, working alongside senior and junior engineers and designers. Reporting to a Project Manager or Control & Automation Lead, you will contribute to projects through all phases, from planning and design to construction. Responsibilities include leading control system design activities, supporting project execution, and ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Hatch's high-quality standards. Total rewards:$102000.00 - $136000.00 annuallyBuild a Rewarding Long-Term CareerWork with one of Canada's Top 3 Engineering FirmsPensionBonus ProgramA typical day:Provide technical and project support through all phases of project execution.Assist in delivering scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.Prepare engineering documentation, reports, and technical deliverables.Coordinate engineering activities and track progress against project requirements.Review shop drawings and ensure compliance with engineering designs.Monitor fabrication, construction, and contractor performance after award.Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and implement corrective actions as required.Develop control system specifications and programming, while mentoring junior engineers and supporting senior staff.Successful candidates will have:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with EGBC.7+ years of project engineering experience; heavy industrial project experience.Strong background in instrumentation, control, and automation design within multidisciplinary projects.Hands-on site experience with the ability to work independently and solve problems in fast-paced environments.PLC/DCS programming experience, preferably Rockwell; DeltaV and ABB experience considered an asset.Proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D/data-centric design systems; SmartPlant experience is an asset.Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organizational skills with experience supervising and delegating work.Safety-focused, self-motivated team player with flexibility to travel as required.This posting is for an active opening.
