The mandate of Water Services is to provide treatment and distribution of a sustainable supply of high-quality drinking water and is committed to protecting the environment by collecting and treating wastewater for the health and prosperity of Ottawa.
You are responsible for the planning, coordinating, repairing and executing of the upgrade and optimization of the process control instrumentation systems and related maintenance activities within the Water Treatment Facilities. Other responsibilities include optimizing control system loops, responding to process issues, diagnosing analog and digital instrumentation and controls system issues both independently and with the support of internal operations staff to troubleshoot, repair and maintain systems. You work in consultation with appropriate internal staff to select, implement and upgrade hardware and components.
In collaboration with appropriate staff, you also develop and determine maintenance procedures and frequencies within the operation of the Water Treatment Facilities. Your work is performed in accordance with corporate, departmental and branch policies, standard operating procedures and safety guidelines, and relevant legislation/regulations.
Completion of 3 year college diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology or related diploma program with demonstrated background in analog instrumentation and digital control systems
Minimum of five years of experience as an Electronics / Instrumentation Technologist in an industrial setting, preferably in a water or sewage treatment plant
Must obtain and maintain a Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP) level 1 Waste Water Treatment/Collection Operator Certification or MECP Level 1 Water Treatment Operator Certification, within the timeframe determined by the employer, as per position requirements.
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.
