Job summary

A natural gas utility company in North Battleford is seeking an Instrument Technician to perform installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of various instruments and apparatus related to gas transmission systems. The role is permanent full-time requiring relevant certifications and a valid driver's license. Applicants will also be responsible for conducting tests and analysis to ensure data integrity, alongside assisting in emergency situations, requiring reliable teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Instrument Mechanic Certificate.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Job description

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team . The Instrument Technician performs various duties for the installation, calibration, commissioning, maintenance and repair of apparatus and instruments associated with the measurement, data transfer, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), pressure regulation and quality control work associated with the gas transmission/distribution systems and facilities in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices.

Union - This position is permanent full time .

Core Responsibilities

Service and Maintenance

Install, activate, maintain, perform preventative inspections and calibrate equipment (such as measurement equipment, data transfer equipment, pressure/flow control equipment and quality control equipment, line heaters and any associated instrumentation equipment).

Conduct dew-point testing, collect gas and liquid samples and perform laboratory analysis to determine data integrity.

Perform or assist with the activation and re-activation of facilities in emergency and maintenance situations.

Coordinating with customers regarding activations/re-activations, analysis of customers inquiries regarding data and consulting with other Departments for information gathering.

As the qualified incumbent, oversee the work of apprentice/other employees or contractors as assigned.

Administration and Scheduling

Organize and schedule weekly work assignments, coordinating with key stake holders (such as corporate supervisors, customers, contractors) to ensure the safe and timely scheduling of maintenance and/or installation of the required facilities.

Maintain operating records, including reporting and updating on tests conducted, corrective action taken or recommended and man-hours and materials used.

Identify inventory requirements and the ordering of supplies for work assignments and maintaining sufficient supply levels for planned maintenance and emergency situations.

Plan monthly work schedules based upon maintenance requirements determined by engineering and district assignments.

Other Support

Assist in the preparation of installation, design and layout specifications.

Assist in the assessment of new technology when required by engineering.

Provide training, mentoring and peer support to other staff.

Qualifications

Education

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Instrument Mechanic Certificate.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license (copy must accompany job applications).

If there are no qualified applicants with the above qualifications, an applicant may be selected and appointed based on the following qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Engineering Technology Diploma (Instrumentation), from a recognized institution.

Physically Fit (documented by a doctor's certificate recognizing job requirements).

Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

If there are no qualified applicants as noted above, an applicant may be selected and appointed as an Instrument Technician Apprentice based upon the following qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Entrance requirements in accordance with the Provincial Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Standards

Physically Fit (documented by a doctor's certificate recognizing job requirements)

Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Additional Information

This job is routinely scheduled for standby.

This job is subject to callout situations.

Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.

This job requires significant travel time.

This job requires extended work hours.

This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).

Prior to Instrumentation Journeyperson:$44.36 ($7,196.08)

With Journeyperson Certificate: $50.52 ($8,195.35)
