Job description

Vancouver Island University's tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus is seeking one or more instructors to teach in the Education Assistant and Community Support Program (EACS) Certificate Program, delivered collaboratively with Tla'amin Nation. The position is based in the Tla'amin community of t̓išosəm, with some hours on campus and/or remotely.


Duties:

Instructors will teach courses between August 11, 2025, and May 15, 2026. Please specify in your application which courses you are interested in:

  • EACS 140 - Understanding and Supporting Behaviour Across the Lifespan
  • EACS 150 - Health and Wellness
  • EACS 160 - Augmentative Communication and Assistive Technology

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will engage in activities outside the classroom, including student support, committee participation, and professional activities aligned with their disciplines.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a human services (social work or educational psychology) or disability field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience supporting persons with disabilities and healthcare needs.
  • Proficiency in post-secondary teaching, online and in-person, capable of addressing diverse student needs.
  • Knowledge of applying theory in practical settings consistent with course content.
  • Evidence of collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and familiarity with learning management systems like D2L.
  • Understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in a related human service field (completed or in progress).
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, current understanding of disability issues, experience with Indigenous communities, and trauma-informed practice training.
