Job summary

Job description

Location: Powell River/qathet Regional District

Hours Per Week: Up to 12 workload hours. May be filled by more than one person.

Salary Or Wage: $8,196.30 per assigned course consisting of three workload hours.

Start Date: Aug 11, 2025

Required Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree from an appropriately accredited institution in a human services (social work or educational psychology) or disability field.
  • Experience supporting persons with disabilities and unique health care needs is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching, both online and in the classroom, with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge and experience applying theory in practice in a manner that is consistent with the content in the course descriptions.
  • Concrete evidence of collaboration and effective teamwork.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology in an education environment and familiarity with learning management systems (D2L).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a Human Service-related field (completed or in progress).
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Broad and current understanding of disability issues. Experience working with Indigenous communities. Training in trauma-informed practice.

We require instructors to teach the following courses between August 11, 2025 and May 15, 2026 (please indicate in your application which courses you are interested in teaching).

  • EACS 140 – Understanding and Supporting Behaviour Across the Lifespan
  • EACS 150 – Health and Wellness
  • EACS 160 – Augmentative Communication and Assistive Technology
  • EACS 180 – School-based practicum
