Job description

Established in 1976, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. Responsibilities

SIIT is recruiting for a Mental Health & Wellness Instructor. As the educational leader in the classroom, the Instructor in the Mental Health & Wellness program will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula aimed at promoting student success. This role involves organizing and implementing instructional activities that create a learning environment conducive to student achievement. The instructor will promote and foster an environment aligned with SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing lesson plans and relevant planning documents for course delivery.
  2. Incorporating current technological advancements into instruction and administration where applicable.
  3. Completing all required course materials, including attendance records and course evaluations.
  4. Evaluating and recording student progress using appropriate methods within set timeframes.
  5. Ensuring a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment.
  6. Adhering to and promoting academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures.
  7. Maintaining classroom discipline and, if necessary, recommending actions regarding student behavior to the supervisor, including formal disciplinary measures.
  8. Making recommendations for modifying course objectives, outlines, curriculum, and evaluation procedures.
  9. Engaging learners with a balance of contemporary learning methods and Indigenous knowledge through a holistic approach.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Social Work, or a related degree is required. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. Prior teaching experience is preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience and knowledge in the Mental Health field. Ability to incorporate contemporary methodologies alongside Indigenous worldview and pedagogy is advantageous. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations is also beneficial. A genuine commitment to helping students learn and succeed is essential.
