Status: Part Time

Hours: Variable hours through the week, can include evenings and weekend hours

Campus: IAHS

Rate of Pay: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine your start rate

The School of Health and Community Services at Mohawk College Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Program requires a part-time skills lab instructor to teach in the skills lab. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the part-time skills lab instructors in the Diagnostic imaging program are responsible for providing an effective experiential learning environment within simulated lab spaces for our students. Lab instructors are responsible for facilitating small group hands-on live sonography simulation providing formative feedback and summative evaluations.

The successful candidate will have strong communication and patient care skills and clinical experience in Cardiac sonography examinations. Involvement/experience in a teaching/learning environment with novice to advanced beginners are additional important assets.

What you’ll be doing:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Hands-on teaching/instruction of established protocols in small group settings level 1&2 students.
• Act as an exemplary role model and assess students in key areas such as technical skill, professional behaviors, communication, organizational skills and patient care.
• Evaluating student progress providing weekly formative feedback to students.
• Evaluating student scanning skill performance and/or submissions of assignments (reflections, case submissions) via more formal summative feedback methods.
• Participation in skills instruction team meetings with other part-time and full-time faculty.
• Create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment for students and colleagues.
• Use of Mohawk College’s educational learning management system (MyCanvas).
• Use of a Picture and Archiving Communication System (GE PACS).

What you’ll bring to the role:

The successful applicant will have:

• Successful completion of an accredited program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or equivalent.
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required. Proof of active registration with Sonography Canada and/or ARDMS.
• At least three (3) years of diverse and current experience in diagnostic cardiac sonography practice.
• Experience in a teaching/instruction role/capacity among novice to advanced beginner sonography students is an asset.
• Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, capable of managing paperless digital documents such as Microsoft Office/PowerPoint and Adobe PDF. This also includes the use of an online educational learning management technology such as MyCanvas.
• Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
• Engagement in ongoing and relevant professional development and ability to demonstrate knowledge of current practice and technology in education and the profession.
• Cardiovascular technology education (CVT) an asset, Vascular sonography an asset.
