Instructor, Medical Radiation Sciences Radiation Therapy - Part Time

Status: Part Time

Hours: Variable hours through the week, can include evenings and weekend hours

Campus: IAHS

Rate of Pay: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine your start rate

The School of Health and Community Services at Mohawk College and the McMaster Interdisciplinary Sciences Collaborative Medical Radiation Sciences Program requires a part-time skills lab instructor to teach in the Radiation Therapy program. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the part-time skills lab instructors in the Medical Radiation Sciences Collaborative Program are responsible for providing an effective experiential learning environment within simulated lab spaces for our students. Lab instructors are responsible for facilitating small group hands-on simulation providing formative feedback and summative evaluations.

The successful candidate will have strong communication and patient care skills, as well as clinical experience in radiation therapy including relevant skills and applied knowledge in the following areas: positioning patients, IGRT fundamentals, side effect management, and CT simulation. Involvement/experience in a teaching/learning environment with novice to advanced beginners are additional important assets.

What you’ll be doing:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Hands-on teaching/instruction of established protocols in small group settings (level 2 and 3 students).
  • Act as an exemplary role model and assess students in key areas such as technical skill, professional behaviours, communication, organizational skills and patient care management.
  • Evaluating student progress providing weekly formative feedback to students.
  • Evaluating student skill performance and/or submissions of assignments (reflections, image portfolios) via more formal summative feedback methods.
  • Participation in skills instruction team meetings with other part-time and full-time faculty.
  • Create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment for students and colleagues.
  • Use of McMaster University’s educational learning management system (D2L but known as Avenue to Learn).

What you’ll bring to the role:

The successful applicant will have:

  • Successful completion of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current registration in good standing as a Radiation Therapist with the College of Medical Radiation Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
  • Current credentials with CAMRT.
  • At least three (3) years of diverse and current experience in Radiation Therapy including treatment and CT simulation. Experience in treatment planning is considered an additional asset.
  • Experience in a teaching/instruction role/capacity among novice to advanced beginner Radiation Therapy students.
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, capable of managing paperless digital documents such as Microsoft Office/PowerPoint and Adobe PDF. This also includes the use of an online educational learning management technology.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
  • Engagement in ongoing and relevant professional development and ability to demonstrate knowledge of current practice and technology in education and the profession.
  • Additional credentials such as dosimetry or MRI certification are an asset.
