A leading marine institute is seeking an Instructor in Marine Engineering to deliver courses in both in-class and online formats. The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is North America’s most comprehensive marine institute dedicated to education, training, applied research, industrial response, and technology transfer supporting oceans industries. Within the Marine Institute, the School of Maritime Studies is involved in various education, research, and training for the marine industry. This includes three and four-year technology diplomas covering all aspects of the marine transportation industry, including Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, and Marine Engineering Systems Design programs, as well as technical certificate programs in Marine Diesel Mechanics and Bridge Watch Rating. Graduates of the Diploma of Technology programs are eligible to continue their studies in the degree programs offered at Memorial University, through the Marine Institute - Bachelor of Maritime Studies (BMS), Master of Maritime Management (MMM), and more recently, the MSc and PhD programs in Maritime Studies. We are now seeking qualified faculty to assist with the continued development and delivery of these programs, which include both in-class and online modes of course delivery.
The successful applicant will provide instruction in the Diploma of Marine Engineering Technology, and/or other Transport Canada Certification programs, including Marine Diesel Mechanic and short industrial training courses. Duties include, but are not limited to:
The successful applicant will also be involved with developing and delivering the increasing portfolio of online courses offered through the University’s Learning Management System. Travel may be required for some industry-related course offerings.
Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in the marine transportation industry; possession of a Transport Canada Certificate of Competency at the First-Class Engineer level; and an undergraduate degree in a relevant area to maritime studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Further experience with shipboard electrical installations and high voltage systems above 1000 volts is an asset. Qualifications at the degree level and previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level are also assets.
Salary: Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
