Title of Course: Italian Culture and Civilization/Society
ITAL 1P96/2P96 D2 LEC Mondays 1900-2200
Please Note: The mode of delivery for this course will be face to face during the term.

Compensation

Effective September 1, 2024 - $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2024 - $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty). The successful candidate is expected to work closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

1. Graduate degree (PhD, PhD abd) in Italian Studies with experience teaching survey course in Italian Cultural Studies and a record of sustained successful teaching at the University level. Native or near native fluency in English.
2. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in upper-level University courses; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; sample course syllabus; references.
3. Ability to independently without immediate direct supervision. Responsibility in all aspects of course work: course development; careful test and exam preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking. Ability to grade work submitted in Italian.
4. Expected integration of web-based and multimedia teaching/learning tools. Use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
5. Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures). Commitment to meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the delivery of the course. Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exam.

· Part-time Graduate Students and Non-Students shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours - i.e. not overtime hours - allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
