Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking a part-time faculty member for the Health Care Assistant Program. The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one Regular faculty at 60% to teach in our Health Care Assistant Program.

HCAP 1150 – Practice Education Experience (Clinicals)
This supervised practice experience provides students with an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills from all other courses in the program with individuals in a multi-level or complex care setting. A portion of this clinical experience will be devoted to working with individuals with dementia. Opportunity will be provided for students to gain expertise and confidence with the role of the HCA within a complex care facility.

FACULTY OVERVIEW:
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) program is a full-time certificate program delivered entirely in-person/face-to-face. The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and values necessary to function as caregivers in a variety of healthcare settings.
Program courses and labs are enhanced by practice experiences in community, complex care and home support facilities. During the final practicum component of the program, there is a distinct clinical opportunity to work and gain experience in an acute care setting. Students will be prepared to meet the care needs of adults who may be experiencing diverse and often complex health and illnesses.
Upon graduation, students will be eligible to register with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
The Health Care Assistant program is guided by the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. To work as a registered health care assistant, graduates must meet the required competencies and standards set by CACHWR.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Faculty in the HCAP are supported to teach in all areas of the program. The position includes teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities.
Faculty members are accountable for 10 months of the year. The 10 months accountable time includes such activities as teaching, the counselling of students, curriculum/program development, professional development and participation on a variety of educational committees.

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
This competition is for a maximum FTE of 60% annualized Regular. When possible, priority will be given to the candidate(s) who can maximize the FTE either individually, or collectively, as such please indicate on your application your preferred workload percentage.
