The Opportunity

Join SAIT’s MacPhail School of Energy as we advance our role as a leader in applied environmental education. We are seeking a highly motivated Instructor in Environmental Sciences for a full-time, 1-year temporary position. This role supports SAIT’s Environmental Technology and Integrated Water Management diploma programs—two pathways that prepare learners for meaningful work in environmental monitoring, sustainable resource management, and water system planning.

The position is well-suited for individuals with a graduate degree (M.Sc. minimum or technical equivalency, Ph.D. preferred) and relevant industry or applied research experience. Demonstrated familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance frameworks—especially as they pertain to land, water, or environmental planning—is considered a significant advantage . In addition to these technical skills, an individual prepared to mentor and support students across a wide diversity of backgrounds is required.

This is a unique opportunity to engage learners in real-world problem-solving, while shaping the next generation of environmental professionals.

Note: SAIT, as a post-secondary institution, serves a diverse student population. Therefore, instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings, evenings, and weekends. If selected, specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.

The Role

  • Instruct courses related to environmental technology, and water programs

  • Collaborate with other instructors and academic leaders to integrate tools, technologies, and field experiences into curriculum

  • Assist with the development of advanced instructional materials in areas such as hydrology, environmental systems, and GIS-based analysis

  • Coordinate industry guest speakers, field trips, or student engagement activities aligned with regulatory or sustainability-focused projects

  • Support the operation and enhancement of lab-based or computer-aided learning environments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • GIS and spatial analysis, environmental instrumentation, data interpretation, and experience with regulatory reporting tools

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, adaptability, and commitment to student success

  • Experience with cross-cultural engagement or equity-centered environmental work

  • Mentorship
