The Opportunity

The Instructor of Employment-Related Language Training and Specialist is responsible for delivering customized language instruction focused on enhancing participants' employment readiness and supporting them in navigating the Canadian labor market. This dual-role position combines teaching employment-focused English language skills with providing individualized employment support, including job search strategies, resume development, and employer engagement.

Language Instruction

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Plan, design, and deliver employment-focused language training to learners, incorporating industry-specific terminology and workplace communication skills.
  • Develop lesson plans and teaching materials tailored to the needs of adult learners, particularly those seeking employment.
  • Incorporate real-world workplace scenarios, including interviews, email correspondence, and presentations, into language training.
  • Assess and monitor learners’ progress, providing constructive feedback to help them achieve their goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and progress reports.

Employment Support

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify participants’ career goals and barriers to employment.
  • Provide one-on-one support for resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops on topics such as workplace culture, networking, and soft skills.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job opportunities and create partnerships for work placements or mentorships.
  • Support participants in navigating employment resources and accessing relevant community services.

Program Development And Administration

  • Collaborate with the program team to align curriculum and employment support services with participants’ needs.
  • Research labor market trends and integrate findings into programming.
  • Participate in program evaluations and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain compliance with funding requirements and organizational policies.

Qualified Candidates Will Possess

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, ESL, or Career Development
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching adult learners, preferably in employment-related language training.
  • Experience in employment counseling, career development, or a related field.
  • Must have a working knowledge of immigrant services available in BC.

A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
