Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking an Instructor for Drafting at the Regina Campus to deliver Drafting and Mechanical CADD courses to post-secondary students. The role involves preparing instructional materials, managing lab activities and assessing student progress, with opportunities for professional development.

The position is part-time with hours assigned (7.25 hours per day, 825 hours per year) and follows Saskatchewan Polytechnic academic regulations.

Qualifications

  • Two-year engineering technology diploma in drafting, mechanical, or CAD/CAM.
  • Eligible for registration as an Applied Science Technologist in Saskatchewan.
  • Two years of recent experience using AutoCAD within last five years.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated instructional ability.
  • Ability to arrange, maintain and evaluate resources.
  • Proficient with internet, e-mail and MS Office; quick to adapt to new tech.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct Drafting and Mechanical CADD classes for post-secondary students.
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate instructional methods for assignments.
  • Manage classroom and lab activities to create an optimal learning environment.
  • Evaluate and record student progress.
  • Modify course content as needed to meet learning outcomes.
  • Accommodate students with diverse learning needs.
  • Attend staff, program and division meetings.
  • Pursue professional development to stay current with industry and education requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborate in a team-based work environment.

Job Duties
  • Instruct Drafting, Mechanical CADD classes to post-secondary students in a wide variety of programs.
  • Prepare and use appropriate delivery methods for instructional assignments.
  • Manage his/her classroom/lab/activities to ensure an optimum learning environment for students.
  • Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress.
  • Make necessary curriculum adjustments to course content.
  • Accommodate students with special learning needs.
  • Attend staff, program and division meetings.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
  • Practice good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Work cooperatively in an interdependent team environment.
  • Follow Saskatchewan Polytechnic academic regulations and policies.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities And Experience
  • Two year engineering technology Diploma in one or more of the following disciplines: Drafting, Mechanical, CAD/CAM, including an advanced CAD drafting course.
  • Eligible for registration as an Applied Science Technologist in Saskatchewan.
  • Two years recent/relevant business/industry experience including AutoCAD software (2 years of experience in the last 5 years).
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Effective interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective instructional ability.
  • Ability to arrange, maintain and evaluate resources.
  • Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
  • Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
  • Demonstrates valuing diversity.
