Job summary

New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) invites applications for the position of Instructor, Civil Engineering Technician at our Fredericton offsite training facility. The instructor will plan, deliver, and evaluate courses, building a positive learning environment while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders across the college.

The role requires strong communication in English, knowledge of Civil/Building Eng Tech topics, and willingness to travel if required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering Technology with relevant work experience.
  • Prefer registration as P.Eng., CET, or P.Tech.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and credentials may be considered.

Job description

New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is committed to transforming lives and communities. Position Type: Term to July 2027

Location: Fredericton (Offsite Training Facility)

Salary Range: $2,454.00 to $3,776.00 bi-weekly, based on experience and level of post-secondary education.

Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering Technology or a related field with relevant years of work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or Professional Technologist (P.Tech).
  • Equivalent combinations of education, industry experience, and professional credentials may also be considered.
Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and MicroSurvey CAD
  • Experience with surveying equipment

  • Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization.
  • Working Knowledge/High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.
  • Self-motivated, service and results oriented.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Business Development Operations Manager, and as a member of the faculty team, the Instructor is responsible for planning and preparing instructional materials and resources; establishing and managing a positive learning environment; instructing and evaluating students; building and sustaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders; as well as other related duties.

Specific instructional areas may include, but are not limited to:

  • Materials lab - soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt
  • Surveying Technology - total station, GIS, GNSS, RTS
  • Building codes and standards
  • Local building materials
  • 3D modeling - Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Site infrastructure
  • Sanitary and storm systems
  • Water distribution systems
  • Water and wastewater systems
  • Environmental planning and sustainability
  • Highway engineering and design
  • Highway surveying
  • Soil mechanics
  • Geotechnical design
