Operational Duty Instructor

Are you passionate about aviation and dedicated to shaping the next generation of the Aviation industry? Look no further! Acting as the Chief Flight Instructor’s delegate, you will be required to maintain operational control of the flight line while utilizing multiple resources; coordinate and communicate effectively with other departments; provide ground briefings to students; enforce and comply with all required manuals and regulations.

As a Duty Instructor, you will be responsible for managing and supervising the safe operation of all flying activities while on duty.

Compensation

Starting salary within the range of $85.46/hr - $111.09/hr.

Schedule

A Duty Instructor will work anywhere between 6 – 14 hours per day/shift. The hours worked will be mostly based on individual preference and availability. A schedule for all Duty Instructors is published on a monthly basis. Duty Instructors will complete anywhere from 1 to 6 days per month, depending on the contract and their availability.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair of the School of Aviation and under the guidance of the Chief Flight Instructor or designate, a Duty Instructor is responsible for:

Maintain operational control of all flying activities
  • Act as the Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) delegate for matters pertaining to ‘day-of’ flight operations.
  • Monitor the initiation, diversion, and termination of all training flights.
  • Manage all Flight Operations positions.
  • Act as the Supervising Instructor on site for any Class IV instruction occurring throughout the duty.

Communicate and Coordinate effectively
  • Brief and de-brief solo/mutual students for flights and simulator lessons.
  • Act as the Supervising Instructor on site for any Class IV instruction as required.
  • Coordinate with the following groups and departments as required: Scheduling, Maintenance, Safety, CFI’s office, Phase Leads, Operations Manager, Chair, Search and Rescue, Flight Ops staff.

Regulatory and Procedural Compliance
  • Actively participate in Seneca’s safety culture in accordance with the Safety Management System.
  • Ensure all licenses, ratings and medical are current.
  • Ensure you are fit for duty in accordance with all the Seneca Manuals as well as Transport Canada guidelines.

Experience

Required Licenses & Ratings
  • Valid Class 1 or 2 Flight Instructor Rating
  • Category 1 Aviation Medical

Other
  • Valid Group 1 or 3 Instrument Rating is preferred.
  • Experience teaching in an Integrated CPL or ATPL program considered an asset.
  • A completed post-secondary diploma or degree is preferred.
  • Previous Command or Management experience is preferred.
