Job summary

Job description

Teaching and Learning Innovation, the Instructional Technologist is responsible for guiding faculty in the design, development, and integration of multimedia elements as part of the Sheridan Online Initiative. This role requires a unique blend of creativity, technical proficiency, and an understanding of instructional design principles to assist and support faculty in creating engaging learning experiences. Working closely with instructional designers, the incumbent plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning through innovative multimedia solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

  1. Working with an instructional designer to design and develop learning objects;
  2. Collaborating with faculty to create high-quality multimedia content that aligns with learning objectives;
  3. Developing scripts, editing videos and audio files for integration into learning experiences;
  4. Creating animations and developing interactive graphic elements;
  5. Creating storyboards and design assets for use within an agile project environment;
  6. Providing training and support to faculty on creating and integrating multimedia content into their courses;
  7. Developing guidelines, best practices, and resources for multimedia development;
  8. Providing expert advice on the effective use of multimedia in teaching and learning;
  9. Managing multimedia projects from conception to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards;
  10. Communicating with partners to ensure projects are on track and according to plan;
  11. Meeting regularly with the project team to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met;
  12. Assessing and mitigating risks proactively and maintaining clear communication with supervisors;
  13. Conducting testing and quality assurance of multimedia elements for LMS compatibility and AODA compliance;
  14. Ensuring all assets meet high design standards;
  15. Creating and implementing data models to support ongoing quality course design;
  16. Maintaining and expanding technical knowledge in multimedia software and tools, including video editing, animation, graphic design, and AI tools;
  17. Guiding faculty on the use of Artificial Intelligence for course design and development;
  18. Staying updated on the latest trends and advancements in media technology;
  19. Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You

You possess the skills and knowledge to work with a diverse student and staff population and demonstrate a commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.

Your research and analysis skills will facilitate impactful measurement, interpretation, and presentation of information.

You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences and communities.

You understand project management principles and tools, and can multi-task, prioritize, and manage complex demands effectively.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • Post-Graduate Degree (e.g., Master’s) in Instructional Technology or related field;
  • At least five (5) years of experience guiding faculty in course development technologies, collaborating on course asset development at a program level using various technologies including LMS and AI;
  • Experience with data collection and analysis to inform design and development decisions and course quality – Data / Learning Analytics;
  • Experience with video & audio production and immersive technologies;
  • Strong communication skills, including presentation and analytical thinking, with the ability to prioritize projects;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team within an agile environment.
