Job description

Location: This opportunity can be remote within Canada (excluding Quebec), or onsite/hybrid in the Vancouver, BC Lower Mainland. Our head office is in Surrey, BC.

Annual Base Salary: $73,900 to $83,300 CAD

Position: Instructional Designer I

Safe Software is hiring an Instructional Designer I to join our growing Customer Education team. The focus is on building a scalable training customization system for diverse user roles, industries, and data types, and enhancing our on-demand and live training content to provide clear, practical, and relevant experiences.

About The Team:

The Customer Education team collaborates to design, deliver, and refine training programs, including e-learning courses, presentations, videos, virtual and in-person training, and post-training support. You can view our work on the FME Academy.

Responsibilities:

  • Design modular training paths tailored to job roles and customer needs.
  • Create detailed instructional plans and structured course pathways.
  • Build and maintain a training customization system to support scalability.
  • Conduct job task analyses, user research, and training needs assessments.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and teams to identify learning goals.
  • Develop eLearning modules, tutorials, user guides, etc.
  • Support live virtual training sessions.
  • Continuously improve training materials based on feedback and data.
  • Evaluate new course authoring tools for customization.
  • Contribute to the development and scalability of the FME Academy.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

Ideal candidates will have experience with the following:

  • 1–2 years in instructional design, adult education, or customer training.
  • Strong communication and content writing skills.
  • Experience designing training for both technical and non-technical users.
  • Knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms and multimedia tools.
  • Willingness to learn technical concepts related to data integration or software.

Desired Skills / Bonus Points:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • Experience with FME or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of data types like GIS, CAD, APIs, databases.
  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python, data formats like XML, JSON.
  • Experience with LMS like Skilljar, authoring tools like Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate, screen capture tools, video editing, AI tools like ChatGPT.
