Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting classroom instructors in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of duties including preparing / maintaining instructional materials and supplies, setting up classroom demonstrations, overseeing students and providing other general clerical support.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Creates a welcoming atmosphere and provides administration support as directed by the supervisor, to the department, students, and clients, exhibiting professionalism at all times.
• Assists instructors in the operation of courses; prepares, sets up and assists with classroom demonstrations and / or events; prepares instructional support material; supervises and assists students with lab projects, including cash handling, appointment booking, and creation of promotional displays; and marks the objective sections of student assignments / examinations, as required.
• Orders, maintains and distributes, as necessary, course and department supplies including, paper, forms, media, student handbooks, ITA and other materials.
• Assists the department leader, department team and students with booking rooms, videos, AV equipment, learning equipment, and monitors due dates and ensures materials, AV equipment, videos, etc., are returned on time.
• Ensures any learning / student / salon, spa, and office equipment are in proper working order under the direction of the supervisor.
• Monitors, maintains and orders inventory of educational and product supplies. Conducts periodic inventory counts for instructional purposes.
• Issues equipment and supplies to students and instructors and maintains storage areas in a clean, orderly and safe fashion, as related to the educational program.
• Provides assistance to clients as necessary, and answers questions.
• Performs quality control of all services ensuring specifications meet established requirements.
• Provides general administrative support, inputs data into the computer system, and supports the creation and maintenance of schedules.
• May prepare purchase and requisition orders and assist with receiving and processing of inventory supplies.
• Assists with coordinating educational related special projects or events as required
• Provides coverage for other Instructional Assistants during absences, and Program Assistant, as required.
• Performs other related duties, as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Grade 12 including Grade 12 English, Mathematics and computer / keyboarding skills and a certificate in hairstyling and 4 years’ related industry experience, including 2 years hands on hair styling experience, or an equivalent combination of training and / or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

• Good organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive issues at any time.

• Ability to exercise professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, tact and courtesy when handling issues of a difficult or sensitive nature
• Ability to function professionally, pleasantly and efficiently during periods of high stress.
• Knowledge of procedures, techniques and methodologies of classroom management involved in providing instruction support services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of program content and instructional material.
• Sound knowledge of classroom management techniques.
• Ability to effectively assist instructors with lab and classroom set-up and demonstrate techniques as requested.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.
• Computer experience with intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel.
• Ability to lift up to 20kg.

Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE

PAYGRADE 22 – $30.71 – $35.92 hourly ($2,150.25 – $2,514.84 bi-weekly)
