Job description

Req ID: 486136

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling, and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. The primary role will be to carry out Signaling Installation and Correlation Design activities related to the Metrolinx Corridors.

You'll be providing Signaling design support activities related to installation and engineering changes requested by our customers and inputs received from the correlation activities. You will be responsible for maintaining electrical core data (schematics and wiring). Day-to-day, you’ll work closely within the Signaling Engineering Design team for Alstom.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Developing Signaling and Telecommunication installation/wiring diagrams for new signaling systems while coordinating with application engineering teams (Signaling and Telecommunications). This involves updating schematics, wiring tables, BOMs (Bill of Materials), creating cable installation routing diagrams, and plans.
  • Preparing modification design data, analyzing, developing, testing, and demonstrating signaling and telecommunication engineering solutions that address complex installation requirements.
  • Providing cost and schedule estimates for signaling and telecommunication design on complex engineering programs.
  • Offering technical expertise in support of other disciplines.
  • Responding promptly to technical queries raised by customers against design data.
  • Reviewing client requirements concerning installation design activities.
  • Scheduling and forecasting work for installation designers.

Required qualifications:

  • Understanding of signaling design processes (Interlocking (IXL), ETCS).
  • Knowledge of signaling principles and translating them into application logic.
  • Engineering and system background.
  • Railway transport training certification.
  • Familiarity with railway signaling standards (AREMA, EN Standards).
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Design team management skills.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. We’ve listed some skills that will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Experience as a design engineer of wayside signaling systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, DraftSight, and wiring tools for updating electrical core data, schematics, and wiring data.
  • Exposure to digital mock-ups (CAD modeling) of harnesses and signaling equipment.
  • Knowledge of design standards related to railway wayside systems.
  • Understanding of wiring solutions to optimize installation times.
  • Understanding electrical engineering principles and interpreting circuit diagrams.
  • Experience in highly complex, normative environments (railway signaling and communication, CBTC, ETCS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
  • Possession of P.Eng license.
  • Willingness to support field activities as needed.

On a more personal level, you will also need to be:

  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn.
  • Able to work independently.
  • A strong team player with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Open-minded and multidisciplinary in approach.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Strong problem-solving and problem-setting skills.
  • Sense of urgency.
  • Clear, rigorous, and concise writing skills.

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a lifelong transformative journey in the rail industry, where you can grow and develop new skills and experiences. You will:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams and colleagues.
  • Contribute to innovative projects.
  • Utilize our agile working environment.
  • Shape your career across functions and countries.
  • Benefit from our investment in your development through award-winning learning programs.
  • Receive a fair and competitive reward package along with comprehensive benefits.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. When you ride our trains, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
