Under the general supervision of the Manager, Hazardous Construction Materials Group the incumbent investigates buildings for Designated Substances specified under the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act. The incumbent inspects abatement projects, writes reports, maintains and upgrades database, and ensures compliance with the University’s Management Programs.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Conducting building deficiency inspections
  • Applying established standards when preparing routine samples for lab testing
  • Monitoring and assessing consultant and contractor performance
  • Creating and reviewing CAD drawing sets of asbestos floor plans
  • Explaining CAD drawings to contractors
  • Planning and implementing health and safety reviews and audits that support operational objectives
  • Maintaining sustained care and attention during the work period, impact extends beyond immediate work area; responsible for things that may cut, crush, blind, or burn

Essential Qualifications :

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in a respective Health and Safety field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four years experience in assessing designated substances and other health and safety risks. Experience with report writing, maintaining database and supervising abatement jobs. Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a strong sense of diplomacy and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent customer service skills providing detailed information and providing assistance and support to clients / customers
  • Proficiency with management software database
