Job description

Intertek is searching for a Grains Inspector to join our Caleb Brett team in our Levis, QC office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in agricultural field inspection!

Under broad supervision, the inspector will provide commodity inspection services that are timely, safe, legal, ethical, and effective. Responsibilities include performing volume and temperature measurements, sampling, calculations, documentation, and reporting to ensure accurate assessments of quantity and quality of materials.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Prepare for and organize grain inspection jobs to ensure timely service delivery, report submission, and sample collection.
  2. Attend to commodity material movements involving loading and unloading of rail cars or trucks.
  3. Perform routine equipment calibration, verification, and checks.
  4. Conduct visual observations, volume measurements, temperature checks, and sampling of commodities in rail cars or trucks, following specified methodologies.
  5. Coordinate with loading facilities and Intertek management to facilitate smooth operations.
  6. Verify and communicate results, and record data accurately in print or electronic media for traceability.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, records, and equipment.
  8. Monitor supplies needed for inspections and report needs to the Inspection and Training Coordinator.
  9. Assist in training less experienced employees using approved materials and company guidelines.
  10. Adhere to all safety, quality, ethics, and environmental policies, exercising good judgment and diplomacy.

Supervision Exercised

  1. Typically, the Grain Inspector does not have personnel responsibility but shares joint responsibility with other inspectors for job completion.
  2. Instructs and trains less experienced staff, including Inspection Assistants and Assistant Inspectors.

Supervision Received

  1. Reports directly to the Branch Manager and Operations Manager.
  2. Collaborates with various departments and communicates daily with the Manager-Inspection Operations regarding work assignments.

Qualifications

  1. Basic math and computer skills required; must hold a Canadian grain grading certification, minimum level 3.
  2. Physically capable of performing job duties; no fear of heights or confined spaces.
  3. Positive attitude, high stress tolerance, and effective communication skills with diverse individuals.
