Job Summary:

Provides Field Evaluation Services (Special Inspection, Field Certification, and US Field Evaluation) to clients in North America. Under general direction, provides services from application review to product labelling and beyond. Conducts on-site evaluations and testing of electrical/electronic products under Field Evaluation guidelines. Ensures the integrity and credibility of the CSA mark by conducting factory inspections to verify ongoing compliance with applicable requirements. Witnesses tests at factory locations.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs technical evaluations of non-certified equipment within their expertise, ensuring products meet technical standards and are free from fire and shock hazards. Makes decisions based on visual evaluations, standards examination, and testing under the Field Evaluation program. Capable of evaluating all products, including new and unique ones, with assistance as needed.

  2. Communicates professionally with clients to schedule inspections, review costs, answer questions, and provide technical guidance. Reviews technical drawings, documents with sufficient detail, and reports required alterations for sub-standard equipment. Discusses corrective actions with clients.

  3. Prepares for field trips by reviewing all necessary documentation. Coordinates with team members for efficient scheduling. Performs factory inspections, reviews quality control records, and ensures ongoing compliance. Conducts pre-license and routine factory inspections and audits, and orders removal of CSA markings when warranted.

  4. Performs initial factory evaluations upon request. Executes special assignments, such as factory visits or audits. Witnesses tests conducted by manufacturers at factories, based on experience and training.

  5. Maintains follow-up systems and correspondence with manufacturers regarding outstanding issues identified during inspections or evaluations.

  6. Provides training and guidance to less experienced staff. Acts as liaison between manufacturing and CSA, providing customer service, application guidance, and certification information. Accompanies regional and foreign personnel for training as needed.

  7. Conducts research on technical and procedural issues, including standards and guidelines. Collaborates with engineering, labs, and colleagues on procedural interpretations and practices. Performs other related duties as required.

Education and Experience:
  • 3-year Engineering Technologist diploma, Licensed Journeyman, or equivalent.

  • At least 7 years of experience, including certification and inspection.

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, wiring, electrical codes, and standards.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
