Overview

Independent Mechanical Supply (IMS) is a leading distributor of plumbing and heating products. We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Counter Sales Representative. This role requires the flexibility to serve our diverse customer base across all product lines, but a background in HVAC products is an asset. As part of our team, you'll play a vital role in delivering exceptional service, fostering customer relationships, and driving sales at the counter.

Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Order Management:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all in-person customers, providing expert advice on products and addressing inquiries.
  • Accurately enter customer orders into the system, ensuring timely fulfillment and delivery.
  • Handle inquiries via phone, email, and in-person, offering prompt, knowledgeable responses.
  • Proactively contact vendors for pricing, availability, and ETA on non-stocked or non-listed products.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve pricing discrepancies and ensure competitive product offerings.
  • Foster strong relationships with customers by understanding their needs, providing tailored product recommendations, and delivering exceptional service.
  • Identify potential sales opportunities and collaborate with Outside Sales Representatives (OSRs) to maximize customer satisfaction and sales.
Inventory & Stock Management:
  • Regularly monitor stock levels for products to ensure availability.
  • Organize incoming inventory, ensuring accurate stocking and storage for efficient order fulfillment.
Product Knowledge & Training:
  • Stay current with industry trends and product knowledge to provide the best recommendations and solutions to customers.
  • Assist in training new employees, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution:
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns professionally and promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Investigate and resolve pricing issues, inventory discrepancies, and other customer-related challenges.
  • Maintain an attractive and organized sales counter, ensuring that product displays are visually appealing and properly stocked.
  • Support cross-departmental collaboration with Purchasing, Admin, and Sales Admin teams to streamline operations.
Mandatory Requirements:
  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience with plumbing and heating products.
  • HVAC Experience: Strong understanding of HVAC products is an asset.
  • Education: High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer systems and order entry (experience with AS400 is a plus).
  • Customer Service Experience: Proven track record in a sales or customer service role, preferably in a counter sales environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, with strong attention to detail.
  • Availability: Willingness to work one Saturday per month.
