Job summary

Messer Americas in Grande Prairie, Canada, is hiring for a hybrid Driver/Inside Sales role. You will drive a heavy vehicle, deliver gas products, and provide excellent customer service while also supporting in-store sales and order processing.

The role requires a Class 3/DZ license with air brakes, 1 year (or 3 years) driving experience, and Grade 12 education. A Northern Living Allowance, uniform, and newer equipment are provided.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 3 or DZ license with air brakes.
• Minimum 1 year driving experience with driving school training or 3 years driving experience.
• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.
• A clean driving abstract (ready to submit when asked).
• Ability to lift goods up to 60 lbs.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Comfortable with computers with Microsoft Office suite.
• Industrial sales skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver gas products and hardgoods to local customers using a 5 or 10 ton truck.
• Balance cylinder load sheets and daily cylinders records.
• Process deliveries with handheld technology and reconcile inventory balances in SAP.
• Comply with government regulations and safety policies.
• Maintain vehicles per policy and report hazards to supervisor.
• Provide customer service and support as an Inside Sales Representative.
• Precall customer orders and enter invoices into SAP; process credit notes and telephone orders.
• Solicit new sales in-store and via outgoing calls; maximize counter sales and handle inquiries.

What You’ll Do

As one of our Drivers, you’ll be driving a well‑maintained vehicle while also professionally representing our organization to our customers. This position is for people motivated to drive heavy vehicles (Class 3/DZ License) and provide excellent customer service. Your responsibilities will include:

• Multiple deliveries (requiring loading and unloading of cylinders)/ day (5 or 10 ton truck) of gas products and hardgoods to local customers within the assigned geographical area
• Balancing cylinder load sheets and daily cylinder records
• Some administration duties include the use of handheld technology to process deliveries and reconcile agent consignment inventory balances
• Comply with all government regulations
• Maintaining vehicles as per company vehicle policy, observing safety requirements, and wearing safety equipment and report safety hazards to supervisor

Role

This role is a hybrid role, and you will also be an Inside Sales Representative, you will play a key role in providing excellent customer service daily and doing the following tasks:

• Welcome and advise customers to come to the store and perform related tasks such as order preparation and follow-up
• Provide administrative and technical support to internal clients.
• Provide creative customer service techniques, show an ability to source products and maintain satisfactory inventory levels
• Capable of communicating on multiple levels with external customers with the objective of increasing counter sales through upselling
• Support Branch Manager in obtaining all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), safety goals and an excellent net operating profit
• Precall customer orders
• Responsible for entering invoices into SAP, preparing credit notes, sorting documents, filing, and processing telephone orders
• Actively solicits new sales in store and via outgoing calls
• Maximize counter sales and handle telephone enquiries from customers or prospective customers
• Receive incoming hardgoods shipments from vendors and intercompany warehouses

What It Takes

• Valid Class 3 or DZ license with air brakes
• Minimum of 1 year driving experience with recognized driving school training or 3 years driving experience
• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent experience
• A clean driving abstract (abstract to be readily available to submit, when asked)
• Ability to handle and lift goods up to 60 lbs.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Comfortable with computers with the Microsoft Office suite
• Industrial sales skills

Assets To Have

• Knowledge of the gas and/or welding industry
• Experience using handheld electronic devices
• WHMIS/TDG certification
